Finally Engaged
EDJE Fun
Friday 29th of May 2009 10:19 AM

On May 24, 2009, I officially became engaged to my boyfriend, Kyle. I say officially because our wedding invites had already gone out for Vegas, so I got a lot of questions wondering where my ring was…  The guy at the jewelry place forgot to get my ring sized when Kyle went to buy it and told him it would be another 4 to 6 weeks. And then, when the ring was ready, Kyle was in Florida for the Marines, so it was another couple weeks until he had it in his possession. I had to go ahead and get the invites out so everyone knew to start saving for Vegas baby!!!!

This past Sunday, Kyle took me to a park, downtown Omaha, where he had taken me for our first date 7 years ago in June. We walked about halfway around the pond and then went over a bridge to a spot where you can look out over the river. Then, after he built up his nerves, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I thought it was funny that he was nervous since our wedding invites were already out… it’s not like I’m going to say no!

Kyle and I met at the end of our sophomore year of college at a party… I don’t believe Kyle remembers this – too much to drink. I was introduced to him by my roommate, who went to high school with him. She told him to stay away from me because at the time I had a boyfriend. Kyle doesn’t listen very well! We got to know each other at the end of our junior year in a class where we had to do gymnastics and dancing. The only reason I ended up taking this class is because my Art History class had been cancelled. I saw that my tennis coach was teaching that class, so I thought, that will be an easy elective! When we had to do the gymnastics part, wow, I’ve never felt so unathletic in my life… I seriously thought I was going to fall to my death a couple times on the high bar! And I had the biggest bruises on my thighs from the parallel bars… I skipped the last class because we were supposed to do a flip off the balance beam. No thanks!

After our junior year, we started dating in the summer. Out of the 7 years, we’ve only lived in the same town for a year and a half. It’s been tough, but I feel like if we can survive 5 and ½ years long distance, 2 of those years being when he was serving our country overseas, then we can make it through almost anything. I am so excited to marry Kyle on September 19th at the top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas. I will become the other “Peterson” at work. Jay, who works on the cattle team at EDJE, says that all the cool people have Peterson as a last name… I couldn’t agree more!

I will be moving from Indianola to Council Bluffs in the Fall, where Kyle lives and grew up. One of us had to finally move and I guess it’s me! I feel very fortunate to say, that even though I am moving, I get to keep my job and work from home. I will be making many trips back though, since my friends and family are in Indianola – plus, I want to check in at work! It’s only a two hour drive, so I don’t think I’ll be staying away too long at a time… Indianola will always be home!

Friday 8th of May 2009 01:57 PM

This Sunday, one of EDJE's customers, Kimberly Burns of YourEquineSource.com is going to be interviewed on Rural Lifestyle on Highway 6 headquarter here in Iowa. Here is a sneak peek from their website:

"This Sunday, in addition to our rural lifestyle news updates, we're going to visit with several women who have been smack in the middle of this movement.  We'll be talking with Kimberly Burns of Your Equine Source.  That's Kimberly and her daughter Kaitlynn working a trade show booth.  Both women are horse people and live on an 80 acre facility in Maryland.  Your Equine Source is the online resource for all sorts of products and services.  When we talked Kimberly told me it was a natural reaction to what she has done for years...connecting people with equine products and services.  Kimberly Burns and more this Sunday morning on Highway 6 - Your Road to the Country."

If you are in a 75 mile radius of Des Moines, Iowa, tune into 98.3 WOW FM this Sunday morning at 8:00 Central to hear the interview. If you aren't in the listening area, don't worry. We'lll be posting a link to the podcast that will be posted after the show.

Kimberly is turning heads all over the internet. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out Your Equine Source.com and connect with Kimberly!

We may be young, but we are not stupid.
New Business Website
Thursday 7th of May 2009 01:00 PM

We love farmers...They feed our soul. Together they are working to help our generation understand the importance of knowing where our food comes from and who produced it.

They’re not your typical “who cares” kind of young people from the Millennial Generation. Sure, they all have cell phones and text like crazy. They have iPods and spend way too much time on Facebook and MySpace, but they care about our planet. They care about our country. They care about the American family farmer.

Few of their friends know how their food is produced. They think that is sad. And, really it is kind of scary. If we are not careful, we will become dependent on other countries to provide our food. That is not good. Who knows what goes on in other countries when it comes to growing our food? We have an idea, and it too is not good.

In an effort to create a conversation among our peers about our food, our farmers and our future, I Love Farmers have committed to getting connected. They want to get the word out about where our food comes from and how it is produced. We invite you to join our I Love Farmers group on Facebook and be a part of the conversation about American agriculture.

"Together, our generation can make a difference."
