In Memoriam :: Lee McCoy
General
Friday 23rd of May 2008 08:51 AM

In Memory of Lee V. McCoy, 1947-2008

It is with great sadness we report the passing of Lee V. McCoy. Lee lost his battle with cancer Thursday, May 22, 2008. Lee’s positive attitude and charismatic smile was infectious. Like Will Rogers, his legacy will be that he never met a stranger.

Born in McAlester, Oklahoma, Lee grew up in Duncan. His father H.A. McCoy was one of the investors instrumental in importing Limousin into the United States and had a prominent Limousin herd in Miami, Oklahoma. Lee attended Kansas State University and graduated from the Texas Christian University Ranch Management Program. He entered the US Navy as a torpedo man on the USS Pomodon Submarine in 1966. From there he served as a field man for the Kansas Livestock Association and various other livestock publications.

In 1989, Lee entered the Ag broadcasting field as Assistant Farm Director for the Texas News Network. Lee continued build an impressive broadcasting resume, working for various radio stations, the Arkansas Radio Network and Southeast AgNet Radio. He was voted Ag Communicator of the Year for Alabama in 1999 and Farm Broadcaster of the year for the Southern Region of the National Association of Farm Broadcasters in 2000.

Lee spent a short period in 2008 working with EDJE Technologies as a web cast technician and sales representative. He also continued working livestock auctions as a ringman, one of his passions. He was an avid bicyclist and swimmer. Lee actively raised thousands of dollars for cancer research and always put a positive spin on his personal battles. A true patriot, Lee served as Post Commander of the Peachtree City VFW Post # 9949.

He leaves behind wife Aurora, children Jacob, 25, Brooke, 24 and Daniel, 22 and a grandchild due July 15th. p>

Lee worked for the Kansas Stockman in the 70's when I was in High Shcool. My Dad thought he was the best ringman ever and always made sure to sit in Lee's section.

Lee was my stepfather for 9 yrs in the early 80's. Jake and Brooke are my siblings. I have to say I wouldnt be the man I am today if it wasn't for the way he raised me. He taught me manners and proper etiquette. When he would come to Kansas City he would always stop by and pick me up for lunch. He was a good man. I too am fighting cancer, and I hope I can have a positive attitude he did.

We'll miss you, Rockie
Business Team Happenings
Tuesday 13th of May 2008 07:58 PM

I recieved some very sad news in my inbox this morning. Rockie Peterson, one of our very good customers, was killed by a tornado ripping through his small town in Missouri this past Saturday evening.

The Tornado destroyed both of their main barns along with several smaller goat shelters. Two goats and one LGD were also killed. Wes and Lori's house was damaged severely, Rockie and Treva's house has moderate damage. The out pouring of help and support from the Boer goat community has been incredible.

Petersons' Farms was one of the first websites I worked on, almost a year and half ago when I first started at EDJE technologies. Since then, I have come to enjoy doing the updates for his site, with the most recent just on Friday. I wasn't able to finish it on Friday, but I quickly did it for Rockie Monday morning, and shot him an email letting him know I had the changes made. I know he never recieved that message. It is sad, to say the least, knowing that it will be last update that will come in from Rockie.

Just two weeks ago, Rockie sent me some pictures showing the flooding happening down in his neck of the woods. I made a joke about how was "MISERY" going, and he came back saying it wasn't too bad, just 24 hours of flooding, then it receded. These are just two of the pictures from the flooding.

Funeral arrangements are currently pending for a military burial in Springfield, Missouri on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 2:00 PM.

Our prayers are with Rockie's family as they begin their journey through these tough times. Feel free to leave your comments below.

Simply: Rockie exemplified the epitome of friendship! I was proud and honored to be his friend through life's ups and downs for almost 6 decades. I will miss his friendship! But I know his spirit and his life's examples of being a good person will always be with us all. We send our heart felt condolences and loving prayers to the Peterson Family. We just heard the terrible news this week from friends in Missouri. We can't imagine what your family is going through at this difficult time, but want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers. It's funny, we were in Taxarkan almost 4 years ago at a Boer Goat Show looking to get started in meat goat business. I can picture where the Peterson's had their goats along with the double-sided business cards you were handing out. You had your equipment set-up on the south side that year. I don't know many folks in the meat goat industry south of Iowa, but I clearly remember how personable and kind the Peterson family was the day we stopped by your tack pen. It's funny how you see people only once, and are impacted by things that happen to them. We wish your family all the best as you cope with your loss of Rockie. Your family is one of many who have inspired us in the goat industry. Take Care. Jamie Greiner & Lyndal Olson Bear Creek Farms- Gilbert, Iowa

I just learned of the tragedy today, (May 15) and was shocked. On behalf of my Dad and the rest of us at R&S Boer Goats, please send our heartfelt sympathies to the family. I, too, spoke with Rocky last Friday and was scheduled to come to see him tomorrow. I didn’t know him well, but from what I knew, I liked. He was the type of guy that, when asked, had a wealth of knowledge and advice you actually wanted to hear. Moreover, he delivered it in an unhurried easy going manner. I am sorry I didn’t know him better.

We just found out about Rockie late last night (May 20th). We were devistated to hear the news. Treva; to you and your family, our hearts are with you, our thoughts and prayers as well. We're so deeply sorry for your lose(s). We met Treva and Rockie last summer. We purchased a Boer Buck from Treva, that has brought us great joy. We purchased the goat working chute set up from Rockie which has been a wonderful addition to our farm equipment, and Rockie was so good to help us with that. We purchased LGD's from Lori, who was extremely helpful in setting us up with guardians that were/are reliable animals. This entire family, has more than given us a great deal of advise and breeding information to enhance our herd, they also have given total strangers, such as us, a friendly welcome, and treated us as they have known us for years. A poem I would like to share with all of you..some may have heard it before..but to you Treva, and your family..I send this to you.. "God Knew" "GOD SAW YOU WERE GETTING TIRED AND A CURE WAS NOT TO BE. SO HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND YOU AND WHISPERED 'COME TO ME' A GOLDEN HEART STOPPED BEATING. HARD WORKING HANDS NOW REST. GOD BROKE OUR HEARTS TO PROVE TO US HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST." "Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near... And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear.... All of my love around you soft and clear.... And then, when you must come this way alone.... I'll greet you with a smile and "Welcome Home." God Bless you one an all, and mend your broken hearts. Thoughts and Prayers, Shane and Pam Bird Chigger Ridge Boer/Kiko Pea Ridge, AR

I've known Wess and Lori for many years, and always admired how family came first for him. I can still see Lori and the kids dropping by to see Dad for a second when he'd worked for days without much time off. I had a chance to visit with him in person this morning, and he showed me all of the work his friends have done to help him in this time. It truly shows how much good he's done in his life, because some of it is coming back to him now. To hear about people from as far off as Louisianna coming to help is amazing. A guy from Tulsa drove up, with his tractor! Ready to help. The thing is, I know how much he really appreciates everyone. From the kind people who put up this blog to memorialize his father, to the guy who dropped by just to pick up sticks in the yard. He and his family are blessed to have you all. I know he has a long way to go, but he will get there, because he doesn't know what the word "quit" means. Bless you and your family Wess. I know your dad would be proud of what you're doing to get your Mom taken care of too.

Southwest Lowline Angus Breeders Association
Cattle Team Happenings
Monday 5th of May 2008 03:26 PM

The Southwest Lowline Angus Breeders Association or SLABA for short is an organization that strives to promote the Lowline Angus breed.  SLABA's club mandate also includes education about the Lowline breed, setting ideals for their cattle and their members and working together to build a strong market and a trusted product.

If you've never seen a Lowline Angus, I encourage you to check out the photo gallery on the site.  These cattle are often referred to as "mini cows," and I'm sure you'll see why.  Because of this fact, Lowlines are ideal cattle for smaller acerages and are also exceptional cattle for children or 4-H projects.

Check out the SLABA members page to find a Lowline breeder!
