Blogs...they really do work. One day a few weeks back, I was feverishly working away at my desk when I got a call from Sam, who had responded to my blog about Seams Perfect. Seams (sorry, I had to do it) that he really like the "bragging rights" icon that I made for him. He thought I was really creative, so he asked me to make a logo for him. Of course I said yes! Sam is really a great person to work with. He responded very quickly to my emails, and was fun to talk to on the phone. He also gave me creative freedom, which is so sought after in my line of work. I got the impression from Sam that he likes to do things on his own, after all, he was maintaining two websites himself, raising four kids (with another on the way), and is trying to start up his own business. So I was honored that he chose me to design a logo for him. When we finalized the design for the logo, Sam came back and said he also needed a business card. I love doing print work! Since my main job is web design here at EDJE, and they are few and far between, I took on the opportunity again. I had a pretty good idea on what Sam was wanting so it only took a few days, and we had that one whipped out. I was going to post the logo design I did for him, but maybe you should head on over to AgServe and check it out for yourself. Now I just need him to change the background color to match the logo… |

| Erica, I have changed the background of the table cell to match the logo. While this is a new logo, I've used AgServe.com as my personal website for sometime with private consulting.
I'm in the latter end of the Kansas Farm Bill Forums that end 2-22 in Hays, KS. The joint K-State/University of Nebraska events continue up in Nebraska next week with my colleagues utilizing some papers and presentations that I helped develop. Next week I will be in DC for the 2007 USDA Agricultural Outlook Forum. While my presentation for USDA will be on the farm income outlook for the Plains states, there is plenty of biofuels and livestock information to consider. Check out my site March 2 when I will post my presentation from the forum.
Continue to come back to the www.AgServe.com website as I will also post a number of other papers and presentations that focus on the future of biofuels and the impacts on farm incomes. Other topics impacting farms and ranches will be posted as well.
Like many livestock producers, I'm extremely interested in how the Farm Bill will shape the environment in which we will operate. Fortunately I have been able to gain some insights through my professional career. My contacts in DC and in key roles at Universities and Ag Organizations are evaluating several prospective components in the Farm Bill. This should be an interesting time for all of us. Sharing this leading information is valuable as we plan for the future and build "A stronger agriculture: One decision at a time."
Best wishes!
Sam

Percheron horses were the first livestock on land north of Vincent, Iowa after Steve Schmalenberger's great-great grandparents established their home in 1865. One hundred years later the farm was named Century Acres, and Steve's Angus cattle were the only livestock grazing that flat land.
Steve Schmalenberger and his wife Nancy are proud to call Century Acres Angus their farm, and with their children now grown, Steve gets to take his grandkids out to see the cattle! Amber Martin EDJE Technologies Cattle Team |

Congratulations to Wildlife Acres Elk Ranch for winning January's Design of the Month!
Wildlife Acres, located in Southwestern Wisconsin, was to start as a small venture of 50 elk in the fall of 1999, but quickly grew past that. We now have around 800 elk. The farm encompasses approximately 800 total acres with about 600 acres fenced and split into 30 pens. Visit Wildlife Acres Elk Ranch today to learn more about their interesting elk business and to see their great website design! |
